Le Jazziste by Mary is back with a new discovery in women’s jazz from her latest journey: jazz immersed in the vibrant, multicultural heart of London!
The jazz scene in this European capital pulses with new energy: it is young, multicultural, and radical. At the center of this movement, more and more women are reshaping the language of British jazz with courage and vision.
Let me introduce you to Camilla George: saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and a key figure in the new British music scene. Born in Nigeria and raised in London, Camilla blends the language of jazz with the rhythms of afrobeat, gospel, and hip hop.
Her music is intense, groovy, and at the same time spiritual. A powerful female voice that embraces the legacy of the African diaspora and transforms it into contemporary energy.

I’d like to focus on two of her main projects:
📀 “Isang” (Ubuntu Music, 2017), where she explores her origins and the concept of “journey”:

From this album, I recommend listening to the dreamy The Night Has a Thousand Eyes:
📀 “Ibio-Ibio” (Ever Records, 2022), is a spiritual and political hymn rooted in heritage, with a strong rhythmic and narrative dimension:

From “Ibio-Ibio“, I suggest the powerful track Abasi Isang:
When I launched Le Jazziste by Mary in October 2024, one of my greatest wishes was to meet women in jazz in their own environment – their creative context. So I “followed” Camilla through the neighborhoods of Hackney and Camden, through independent venues and urban parks that echo with the new jazz energy of London.
London gave me unexpected sonic visions…
As always, happy listening and happy Jazz! 💜
See you on the next musical journey.
