Darn That Dream

Darn hat Dream is composed by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Eddie DeLange, published in 1939. It became a No. 1 hit in 1940 with Benny Goodman’s recording, featuring vocals by Mildred Bailey. The song was originally introduced in the short-lived Broadway musical Swingin’ the Dream, a 1939 adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream set in New Orleans. In my interpretation, I draw inspiration from a mix of versions by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson and Dianne Reeves.
