I simply wanted to <em>discover<\/em> more. So I immersed myself in the geography of Parisian jazz clubs, starting from the legendary Rue des Lombards and then letting myself drift from one&nbsp;<em>rive<\/em>&nbsp;to the other, with just one goal: to get a little lost among the magnificent streets of Paris&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Baiser Sal\u00e9, 38Riv, Le Caveau de la Huchette, Duc des Lombards&#8230; different places, yet all sharing that mysterious, intimate, underground atmosphere that I still, without a doubt, associate with jazz clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:65px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-576x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-576x1024.png 576w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-169x300.png 169w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-768x1365.png 768w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1-864x1536.png 864w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-1.png 1152w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><strong>38Riv<\/strong><\/em> <br><br><em><strong>(ph. A girl on her own, a cocktail or a glass of red wine in her hand, the expression of someone who knows the repertoire almost by heart, a few lyrics quietly sung under her breath, spontaneous smiles, fingers naturally snapping to the beat, and that slightly enchanted look that comes over me whenever I listen to jazz: a combination that, for some reason, often seems to intrigue both the audience and the musicians on stage, who invariably end up asking me whether I&#8217;m a musician too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I find it terribly amusing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I travel, I feel a little like an&nbsp;<em>undercover jazz agent<\/em>. Not always with a notebook in my hand documenting every detail, but certainly ready to capture what truly matters to me: a song that gets inside me in that particular moment and that I will inevitably keep singing in my head (and out loud) for days afterwards, the interactions on stage, a glance between musicians, the expressions of the audience, the atmosphere of a room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all, I am (also) a researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>To research.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I have chosen to research women in jazz: this incredible musical world of which I myself am a part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To seek them out, listen to them, and celebrate them, because too many have been forgotten, underestimated, or left on the margins of jazz narratives for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so, here I am, once again, in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, the trail led me towards&nbsp;<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Catia Werneck<\/mark><\/strong>, performing at Le Baiser Sal\u00e9 with her&nbsp;<em>100% Br\u00e9sil<\/em>&nbsp;project; towards the original, narrative jazz of pianist and composer&nbsp;<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Pieternel Van Oers<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;and her trio; and all the way to 38Riv, where I discovered&nbsp;<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">\u00c9lisa L\u00e9cuyer<\/mark><\/strong>&#8216;s&nbsp;beautiful project dedicated to Anita O&#8217;Day: an encounter between music and storytelling that couldn&#8217;t help but catch my attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three women, three completely different paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And three more reasons to keep getting lost in Parisian jazz clubs&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"878\" src=\"https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2-1024x878.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3285\" style=\"width:686px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2-1024x878.png 1024w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2-300x257.png 300w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2-768x658.png 768w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2-1536x1317.png 1536w, https:\/\/maryblengino.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-2.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Catia Werneck<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is plenty to get lost in when it comes to&nbsp;<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Catia<\/mark><\/strong>&#8216;s&nbsp;warm, seductive voice too, which I would like to tell you a little more about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally from Rio de Janeiro,&nbsp;<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Catia Werneck<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;carries the soul of Brazilian music with her, moving between samba, bossa nova, jazz, soul, and contemporary sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With&nbsp;<em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">100% Br\u00e9sil<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>, accompanied by Vincent Bidal on piano, Laurent Vernerey on bass, and St\u00e9phane Huchard on drums, she brings this energy into the heart of the Parisian jazz scene, creating an ideal bridge between Rio and Paris (where she moved at a very young age), two distant cities deeply connected by music, encounters, and cultural exchange.
